Block-printed Winter Textiles Workshop

Learn basic linocut carving techniques and explore block-printing by hand to personalize clothing or table linens in time for the holidays. Find inspiration in the beauty of winter, the simple shapes found in daily life, and the potential for patterning offered by seasonal symbols. Start the day by planning individual elements and repeating designs, and discuss how to organize your workspace for efficiency when printing. Use linocut tools to carve interesting fabric stamps from soft-cut linoleum blocks and get tips about using block printing inks when printing your stamps onto fabric – no heat-setting required. Take home your hand-carved soft-cut blocks, hand-printed textiles and the knowledge of how to print more at home.

*No prior experience necessary – open to beginners and those with some experience.

*Participants are asked to bring pre-washed & -ironed textiles that they would like to print on (natural fabrics like cotton & linen work best but you are welcome to experiment with anything you like)

*All other materials provided.

*Bring your lunch and an art smock, or wear art-friendly clothes.
